The Integrity Wake-Up Call
In this post, I unpack the hidden cost of breaking your own word—and why living in alignment is the foundation of true confidence, purpose, and impact. -Rebecca Misek
The Integrity Wake-Up Call
We all talk about integrity like it’s a given.
"I'm a person of integrity."
But when you zoom in a little closer, here's a hard truth:
Most people define integrity by how well they keep their word to others.
But what about the promises you make to yourself?
If you constantly say "I'll start tomorrow" and don't, if you make goals and never follow through, if you show up for everyone but yourself—you slowly chip away at your confidence. Not in loud, dramatic ways, but in quiet, subtle ones.
It becomes a silent killer of your dreams.
The Cost of Self-Betrayal
When you stop keeping your word to yourself, your brain learns not to trust you.
And what happens when trust breaks down?
You hesitate. You second-guess. You shrink. You play small.
Eventually, your subconscious writes a new story: I'm not the kind of person who follows through.
But here's the shift:
Integrity isn't about perfection. It's about alignment.
It's about bringing your actions in line with who you say you are—consistently.
You Need to Know Your Terms
Living with integrity means knowing what you're committed to ahead of time.
One of my non-negotiables is honoring people's time. I show up early. I don’t run late. Why? Because time is a non-renewable resource. I don’t always feel like honoring this commitment, but it’s a term I’ve decided to live by. That’s integrity.
When you make your standards clear, you don't have to make hard decisions in emotional moments. You already know who you are and how you operate.
So, what are your terms?
What do you want to be known for?
If you haven't clarified that, you'll find yourself swept along by others' expectations, constantly readjusting to please or perform.
One Bold Move
Here's where it gets real. Ask yourself:
Where am I out of alignment with who I say I am?
What is a lack of integrity costing me?
What’s one bold move I can make today to raise my integrity score?
No one's coming to rescue you. But you don't need rescuing.
You need a decision. You need alignment. You need to become someone you trust again.
That’s how you build something unshakable.
